Newborn safety is always at the forefront of everything I do throughout every single session. I use precautions to identify any potential risks in order to avoid them.
When we’re working with these precious babies, we must consider not only their safety and how secure they feel throughout the session, we also have to consider how handling the baby makes our clients feel.
I’m constantly mindful of demonstrating safety at all times for the parents, because this is often the first time that they are seeing their baby held by a complete stranger. I want my parents to feel confident and comfortable with the way that I am photographing their baby.
I handle with each and every baby the exact same way I would expect someone to handle my baby — with the upmost respect.
This is why I’ve created a set of rules for my studio:
- Never Leave Baby Unattended
- Always Support Baby’s Head and Neck
- Photoshop is a Safety Tool
- Never Force Baby into a Pose
- Always Wear Camera Strap when Shooting From Above
- Never Stand on Anything Above Baby
- Always Have a Spotter When Using Props
- Avoid ALL Fall Risks
- Never Use Glass or Breakable Props
- Baby’s Safety is Always More Important than “Getting the Shot”
These are the rules that I abide by, and that I require of anyone who works with me in handeling newborn babies.
I’m share these rules with you in separate videos. They’re going to answer the why behind each rule, and they’re also going to share how we achieve certain results.
Always whilst keeping the baby nice and safe and secure.
Whilst the poses and final images shown throughout these training videos are representative of the work of Little Pieces Photography Studio, we do state that all photographers, assistants and studio staff who are near the baby are trained in the strict safety methods required by the studio. Some images are composite images. At no time does Little Pieces Studio allow any risk to the babies to capture an image.
Little Pieces Photography talk to the parents about the baby’s birth and any issues that may have been occurred. We strongly advise that no babies be forced into a pose and as such we will never force a pose for a baby, siblings or the parents.
Further more Little Pieces Photography strictly abide by local zoning, council & insurance requirements at all times – please check your local requirements & restrictions.
